Paolo Thiran graduated from EPL (UCLouvain) in June 2020 as an electromechanical engineer specialized in energy. During his master’s, he had the opportunity to do an exchange at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne where he deepened his knowledge about energy systems. For his master’s thesis, he worked on modeling of multi-region and multi-energy systems. With his colleague, Aurélia Hernandez, he developed a model suitable for long term planning of systems with multiple regions interacting with each other such as the European energy system.
He is now joining the BEST project to study the topic of multi-region energy systems modeling. The final goal of his thesis is to develop a methodology to analyze the influence of exchanges with neighboring countries on Belgium’s energy transition.
