Sebastian Verhelst (UGENT and LUND University) leads a research team that focuses on realizing the transition to sustainable transportation. 
Renewable fuels in internal combustion engines are a viable route to defossilize a number of applications such as heavy duty and waterway transportation. The research is aimed at evaluating the potential of the most promising new fuels and engine concepts, and develop R&D tools to enable their optimization.
