Antoine Verhaeghe (UMons) will present his work at the ASME Turbo Expo 2023 conference in Boston (USA): “Thermodynamic Assessment of a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine With Post-Combustion Carbon Capture and Exhaust Gas Recirculation Under Part-Load Operation Toward Carbon Capture Penalty Reduction“, in collaboration with Maria Jose Mendoza Morales (UMons/VUB), Julien Blondeau (VUB), Frederiek Demeyer (Engie Laborelec), Laurent Bricteux (UMons), Ward De Paepe (UMons).
Abstract: The introduction of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) presents a promising solution to attenuate the negative impacts of Post Combustion Carbon Capture (PCCC) on Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plants. However, as CCGTs often operate at partial load to support renewable energy generation, the implications of using EGR in such scenarios remain unclear. This study aims to fill this knowledge gap by exploring various operational strategies for the implementation of EGR in full- and part-load CCGT operations. Our objective is to provide valuable insights into the optimal utilization of EGR to enhance overall performance.
