Ward De Paepe (UMONS) is focusing his research on the development of small-scale, highly flexible, carbon clean co-generation units for use in the future decentralized electricity production, with a special interest in micro Gas Turbines. Within his research, measures like Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) or cycle humidification (steam/liquid water) are applied to the cycle to improve the mGT performance (efficiency and power output) as well as operational flexibility (decouple heat and electricity production and improve part-load performance).
Ward De Paepe focusses both on the full cycle level, as well as on the level of the individual components, with a special interest in the combustion chamber. Fuel flexibility, utilization of hydrogen and performance under highly diluted conditions are currently the main topics.
